Foil session number 8 and alas the wind didn't turn up. Have also noticed I have foiled mainly this season, and hardly any fin sessions!
Sunniest day I have ever sailed and so was boiling in my short sleeve but full body suit. Had to jump in several times as too hot from pumping. Ben going out in shorts on his formula fin was the best idea.
Bradfield was also packed with bathers cooling off. 8 turned up hoping for a sea breeze near high tide, which at 2pm was still out at bit as 4 ish was high tide. 5 foilers and 3 fin (2 formula) with Nick trying out his brand new Patrik air inside formula, which he had to keep equalising the inside pressure due to the hot day. Alas the wind refused to increase and stayed at 6-8kts. I have to admit, normally I would have gone home, but incredibly Colsey was flying all over the river with some ferocious pumping!
Graham had a few flights along with formula heads Jim and Ben, on fin, whilst Nick never got going on his fin with the Patrik.
I rigged old Severne 9.5 race board sail as has less twist but the con being very heavy compared to 8.5 rotational. I never really got a flight in despite pumping in sets of 6x vigorously. To be honest I nearly flew several times but just didn't leave the water long enough to fly. On a non dedicated board, my Ultrasonic 147 was almost impossible to pump with front foot in straps as its too far back, despite being set up most forward. Will probably get a dedicated foil board next year - or as soon as I have cracked foiling.
The weight of the sail did contra the size difference so not sure if the larger sail was worth it, however it did work fine, so will probably use it when the wind is light on flat water. Lots of banter and frustration seeing Colsey flying round in his usual racing triangles, with his massive 10m sail oversheeted tanking up wind in FA wind!
Great day however, enjoyed Graham cider, my coffee and chat, with lots of beauts to look at swimming..lol!
Switched back to my seat harness which was much better so will flog the waist harness.
High tide came and went without a sea breeze so called it a day. Great gym session clocking over 1400 calories in the hour and a half session. Decided to finish off in the steam room on the hottest day of the year. The room was full! Torture and its a hard life!
